"Buddy bike", I first heard the term a long time ago. I am not the first person to get a second bike just for friends to ride. Only a few of my friends have motorcycles, while most have a motorcycle license.
At first, I saw this as an opportunity to add choices to my riding as well. I was about to get a Dorsoduro 900. A great choice for my desert rides. I could go riding motorbikes with my mates, and have another pony for my stable. The seat height and 900 cc motor however was intimidating to some who had not ridden for many years.
I realized not only did this bike have a purpose, it was becoming important to my pals who want to ride, but a motorcycle is just out of reach, Also I had to take into consideration that back in the day, my friends were great riders. I needed something just about anyone could ride, but an experienced rider could enjoy.
The new batch of beginner bikes were still too small. When the Ninja 400 was introduced, I had to go check it out. It looked like a smaller version of my S1000RR. The power to weight ratio makes it a blast to ride. Easy to operate and enough power to play. Then I thought this would be much better to rent when I am on vacation than a scooter or huge cross country cruiser. This would make a great sport bike rental.
